Chapter 86: A Shocking Betrayal

I somersaulted backwards to avoid Alexis's slashes. One managed to nick the left breast on my belly, and the wound was leaking blood. "Alexis, stop!" I shouted, rolling aside. A horizontal slash cut a tree in half and it went sliding down. I heard a few screams from below. Poor fairies. "You always get the good stuff!" Alexis yelled, continuing her slashing at me. "Power, love, money, everything!" She added. I didn't have a response for this. "For that reason, I've always dreamed of surpassing you. Now, I can, and I'm willing to do it." She smiled devilishly.

"I'll give you anything, just stop this!" I yelled. Ares was taking cover behind a tree. Even his armour couldn't stop a big nasty sword like Alexis's. "Anything? Even your life!?" She shrieked. Her eyes were filled with bloodlust and anger. This wasn't the Alexis I knew...... I tried scanning her life energy. It was her all right, but... her energy was tainted black. All life energy I saw was represented as a coloured flame dancing inside the person's body. The colour of my life energy was silver, but Alexis's was blazing pure black. How could she get tainted like that in such a short time......?

"I'm sure we can-" I was cut off by Alexis, "There's nothing to talk about! Killing you will be a sure way for me to see that I can really surpass you!" She was going crazy! "You wanna surpass me? Then let's beat Saevio together!" This was the last chance. "No. Saevio admits that he's weaker than you are, but, he gave me the ability to suck up the powers of people I kill!" Alexis screamed. She managed to hit my right shoulder and slice my arm clean off. "ARRRGGGHHHH!!!" I screamed, clutching the wound. I couldn't hurt Alexis, even if she was like this! "STOP THIS!!!" Ares ran out of nowhere, blocking Alexis's sword with his own.

"How can you even have the heart to attack your own twin sister!?" Ares yelled, trying to stop Alexis's sword. She was applying more and more pressure, and the tree branch he was on was starting to crack. These trees were magically enhanced to have the same properties as stone, which was why people could stand on the leaves and not fall. Purple blood was streaming steadily out of my severed arm now, and it hurt a lot......

"Get. Out. Of. My. WAY!!!" Alexis shrieked, finally applying her full strength to the sword. Ares's sword didn't have the integrity to stop it any more, and I was forced to watch, horrified, as my future husband was sliced vertically down his spine. "Artemis, I did all I can." His hollow voice seemed to linger in the air. The two halves of his body fell apart in slow motion as I screamed, "AREEEEESSSS!!!"

Alexis wasn't even panting as she brought her bloodied sword back up. I fought the tears welling up inside me and reached my left hand to my back, grasping the hilt of the Genesis Tempest. "Unforgivable." I whispered, no longer able to fight back the tears streaming out of my eye sockets. "Unforgivable." I repeated the word. Black magic was flowing out of the Horntail part of my body, and my own heart was pumping, struggling to fight back the magic. I could feel my own life energy being tainted, and I was powerless to stop it.

"UNFORGIVABLE!!!" I screamed. My heart finally gave in to the black magic, and the magic flowed towards the stub of my right arm. A sudden outburst of black magic blew my hair upwards, and my severed arm began to regenerate itself. The new arm was significantly larger than my original arm, and more muscular, covered in green dragonskin. All my teeth became pointed, and the nanomachines in my left arm kicked into overdrive, supercharged by black magic. Muscles grew at an astonishing rate, and my legs followed suit. I still remembered the Omega Sector project to create superhumans by injecting nanomachines into the subject's bodies. I had taken part in the experiment, hoping to augment my own strength. Those superhumans were originally intended to be used for fighting the aliens, but the facility was attacked halfway through, and I was the only survivor. Up until now, I had absolutely no idea how to activate the nanomachines. Now, I knew.

My clothes were strained to the limit, but didn't break. They felt really tight. Muscles were clearly visible through the stretched fabric, results of the activated nanomachines. I let out a demonic roar as I reached the final stage. Alexis reared back. "Unforgivable, unforgivable, unforgivable." I kept whispering the word as black magic opened up new magical veins throughout my whole body. Strained veins popped up all over my body and I leapt towards Alexis. Her sword was pointed upwards. Pain erupted throughout my body as the sword rammed through my chest, narrowly missing my tainted heart and making a big hole in the middle of the shirt. However, black magic quickly regenerated the wound and I punched Alexis in the stomach with my right hand. A hole opened there, and blood sprayed out. She screamed in pain and started trying to cut my head off, but my left hand held her sword arm down.

I punched the struggling Alexis repeatedly until her entire frame was still and unmoving. Her heart was still beating weakly though. I roared and opened my mouth. A row of sharp teeth glistened in the light that wasn't blocked by the treetops, and my teeth sank into Alexis's right shoulder. She screamed in pain as I started to eat her right arm. Her screaming stopped when I got to her chest. I only stopped when I had finished with her entire body. One loud roar sent a shockwave resonating around the whole town, then I reverted back to normal. My swelled muscles contracted, and my right arm turned back to a normal human arm. The strained veins disappeared and I shrank back to normal in the middle of a massive crater twice the size of the Kerning Crater.

I lifted my right arm, staring at the hand. "What have I become?" I asked myself. Ellinia was completely vaporized. "Ares...... Alexis......" I whispered, limping towards the side of the crater. My bloodstained clothes and mouth were evidence enough. "I ate my own sister......" I sank to my knees, crying loudly. "My...... own sister......" I sobbed. "I'm a monster!" I shrieked, bashing my head on the ground. The ground cracked. "No way I can live with myself...... Alone...... Ares...
Roy..." I continued crying.

I gripped the Genesis Tempest on my back with both hands and pointed the blade at my own chest. "I can't live...... I'll hurt more people if I do......" I whispered. The sword was vibrating terribly as a result of my shaking hands. "Farewell, world." I closed my eyes and pressed. The sword bounced off my chest. "What?" I looked down. The Genesis Tempest's blade had melted, and there was a glowing key mark right in between my breasts. "Weird, I've never seen this key before." I examined it. It was shaped like a heart, and I was pretty sure I hadn't done anything to get it. Hold it. Alexis said that Saevio had given her the power to suck out her victim's powers. "No way...... Saevio gave Alexis a Key..." I breathed, realizing that this was the king of all four keys. The Life Key. How did he get it?

I knew the Life Key had the power to revive a dead person for some reason. A Bishop's Resurrection skill could only revive a person if the body was nearby, but the key went far beyond that. It could drag a person into reality from either heaven or hell without needing the body nearby. This was how Saevio had tainted Alexis's life energy. I quickly closed my eyes and started to concentrate. The magic came out easier now, because I was utilizing the Horntail's black magic. The veins popped up again, and I struggled to maintain concentration. Soon, a ghostly naked image of Alexis's body appeared in the air, then solidified into a body. It started to glow blue, then it collapsed. I ran towards it, noting that my skin had started shedding again.

"Uggh...... Where am I...?" Alexis's familiar voice sounded out of her body's mouth, and she got up, rubbing her head. "Back from the dead." I smiled and helped her up. "Artemis...? Where am I..?" She moaned. "In what was once Ellinia." I sighed. At that, she stood bolt upright. "The last thing I remember was someone that looked like you biting me!" She collapsed again. "I did eat you, but I wasn't the one in control back there." I explained. Alexis looked horrified. "I'm sorry about trying to kill you like that...... I don't know what came over me..." She hurriedly apologized. "It's okay. Saevio was controlling you all the time. Anyway, it's time to bring Ares back." I smiled, creating a mental image of Ares in my mind. Almost instantly, he popped out of nowhere right beside Alexis, naked. "What the heck-" He jumped to his feet, holding an invisible sword. "Hold it, tiger." I chuckled. The Genesis Tempest's blade seemed to have completely regenerated.

"Lemme get this straight. You ate Alexis and got the Life Key which Saevio gave her, then used it to revive us?" Ares asked after a lengthy period of explanation. I nodded, starting to scratch my chest. Shedding yet again. Alexis looked on, disgusted as I used a Soul Arrow to cut the top layer off. "You do not want to put that on." I advised, pointing at the extra breasts on my belly. "It'd make a nice jacket though." She lifted the shedded skin up, looking at it. "If you want your chest to look like mine, go ahead." I snorted. She kept staring at the skin, and eventually put it on. I groaned. Her cheeks suddenly turned red, and she clutched the breasts of the skin, which seemed to have melded into her body. "Gosh, you really envy me that much?" I smiled. "Well, you could say that." She poked her chest.

I quickly used the Reality Key to make clothes for us. "Where will we go from here on? Alexis is wanted, and you're probably wanted too, after nuking Ellinia like that." Ares pointed out. "Dunno. I could just use the Reality and Time Keys to change the whole thing around so it never happened, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep myself from going nuts after that. If I do go nuts, I'm pretty sure
Victoria's gonna just be one flat pancake after a few days." I sighed. "Good point." Alexis groaned. I knew she felt guilty for destroying Kerning. Her dragonskin didn't seem to have granted her any Horntail powers though, it just looked like a skintight jacket, albeit a rather shapely one. This gave me an idea. "Alexis. I'm going to pass to you all my powers except for the Horntail's magic, and I'm pretty sure you don't want that." I said. Alexis gasped. "It's the only way. What if I go berserk someday and Victoria is completely leveled? I need someone who can stop me then, and you're pretty much the only person." I explained, placing my hands on her back. "I'll need to be careful as not to transfer some Horntail magic over though." I mumbled, starting to concentrate.

The power transfer took about an hour, considering the massive amount of energy needed to e transferred. My split personalities joined Alexis too, since I didn't want any of them wreaking havoc. Now, Alexis had four Inner Beasts and the five Keys. Her original Siren, the Dark Dragon, the
Phoenix and the Archangel. "I feel a lot stronger." Alexis flexed her fingers. "It's natural. Now, you have to work up the heart to kill me if I do go nuts." I started scratching all over. Since the other powers in my body were now gone, the Horntail magic was flowing into the empty areas left behind. I shedded a piece of dragonskin about two centimetres thick as Alexis watched. "Arrgh!" I screamed. The outburst had come sooner that I expected. Dragonskin was growing all over my body, and two big wings were already rooted in my back. I felt something poking out of my right shoulder, and automatically assumed it was another head. Another similar feeling popped up in my left shoulder, and I roared a Horntail roar.

......

"Oh my god......" I gasped at the Horntail-Artemis hybrid. The two heads growing out of her shoulder were miniature Horntail heads. Ares was silent. Then, she stopped changing. "The Genesis Tempest...... before the Horntail gets... stronger..." Artemis gasped for air. I grasped the sword tighter, pointing it at Artemis's chest. "I know." I sighed. After that sentence, she started changing again, and I quickly rammed the sword through her chest. A sickening sound resonated through the air. The green blood spraying out of the wound and onto my face made it even more sickening. I turned away as the Horntail-Artemis hybrid roared once. A sorrowful roar. "Thanks...... Alexis......" Artemis managed to squeak as her body fell in slow motion. She didn't manage to complete the transformation, which was good. However, she was also dead. I started to cry into the dead Artemis's chest. "I know what you're thinking. Don't try to revive her. She was fused both mentally and physically with the Horntail before she died. Reviving her will bring it back." Ares said. His voice was filled with emotional pain.

Channeling the
Archangel's magic right into the Time and Reality Keys did what I hoped it would. Ellinia and Kerning magically reappeared out of nowhere, inhabitants blinking in surprise. The Archangel's magic was almost on par with the Horntail's when directly channeled, but it required another person to help the caster. "Good job." Ares smiled as he helped me up. I just got up when I saw black hair billowing from the side of my head on a gust of calm wind. Apparently, my hair had turned black during the power transfer, and so had my eyes. "You could pass for Artemis now." Ares wiped a solitary tear from my cheek. "Maybe because...... She compressed her very soul into me." I forced a smile, pointing at an apparition in the air that I had made. It had the appearance of Artemis, and it was smiling. "You mean......" Ares gaped. "Yeah. She's living inside me now. The compression of her soul helped her stay alive, as she pushed out the Horntail's magic. She's just waiting for a new body to inhabit. An uncontaminated body." I smiled, then relaxed.

......

"And I thought I'd never live again. That compression thing was something new I found in the
Archangel's diaries." I smiled at the stunned Ares. "Artemis?" He whispered. I nodded Alexis's head. "I'm just using her body temporarily until I can find or make a new one. Since I'm pretty much just a split personality inside Alexis, I don't have access to the Keys. She'll need to make me a new body using the Reality Key, but she's just too tired to use it now." I explained. A slight memory loss was a side effect of the compression, but at least the Horntail wasn't part of me anymore. I took the Genesis Tempest and looked down at my original contaminated body. "I have to destroy it, so that no one can use it again." I stuck the sword into the chest wound, twisting it 90 degrees. "Beam Genesis!" I shouted, concentrating my energy into the sword. A bolt of light shot down from the sky and bathed the body. When it disappeared, the body was gone. "More precise and concentrated than the Bishop Genesis." I smiled, then relaxed, giving Alexis control back over her own body.

......

I blinked. The Genesis Tempest was stuck in the ground, so I quickly pulled it out. "Now you know she's safe." I smiled at Ares. He nodded. "And I know that you can help her." He smiled back. I nodded, then collapsed.
