Chapter 71: Hit And Run

Alexis kept knocking her head on door frames for the rest of the morning, and Lacus woke up later, going downstairs for a drink. She saw Alexis and promptly stumbled backwards in surprise. "What the......" She gasped. "Well, Artemis noticed that I wanted to be taller and spiked my tea with powdered Skelesaurus bone." Alexis explained, wincing at the pain of the bump on her head. I was halfway through my magazine now, but I wasn't really focusing on it. Those 3 years of training had given me senses beyond ordinary human capabilities, and I sensed someone outside the house. Of course, the senses were shared with my other personalities.

I held my hand out, mentally summoning the Archaeion. The black and white bow appeared in my open palm and I quickly muttered, "Soul Arrow. Bow Booster. Sharp Eyes. Focus."

I got to my feet and opened the door, looking out. My senses told me that the person was flat up against a pillar. However, my normal sight showed no one there at all. Unfortunately for the intruder, I had learnt that just because you saw nothing, didn't mean that that particular place was empty. I fired a single arrow at the pillar, and the person immediately ran for cover behind another pillar. "Don't hide." I said quietly and nocked another soul arrow to the string. The figure fled over the wall and I followed suit, quickly vaulting over the wall. However, I didn't see what was coming next.

An electrical trap activated just as I landed on the other side of the wall. The electrical bolts shot upwards into my body, and I gritted my teeth, trying to escape. However, there seemed to be some kind of organic magnet on the trap, and I couldn't move no matter how hard I tried. I was pulled onto the trap on my back, and lay on it with my body absorbing the emitted electrical bolts. My hair started to spike, and some of my muscles tensed. It occurred to me that this trap would consume a lot of electricity, and I was sure that I would be able to break free if I could take the pain for a few more minutes. The person I was chasing earlier appeared to have escaped. What a drag...... My arms were stuck to the trap, which resembled a flat circular panel. After a few minutes of waiting, my hope began to dwindle.

It was now obvious that this static trap wasn't battery-powered. The pain was now reaching unbearable levels, and I felt like a drumstick being barbecued. Of course, I was able to send mental messages to Alexis, but it required heavy concentration, which I wasn't capable of achieving due to the electricity coursing through my body. I was teetering on the brink of unconsciousness now, and I fervently hoped help would come. It did.

A few seconds after I thought that very thought, there was a yell and The electricity stopped. I tried to get up, but my entire body was too stiff. I smelt something burning and realized that my shirt was on fire. It was doused quickly though. Alexis was holding her hand out. Although...... it wasn't really a hand. Her hand had changed into a cannon barrel, and the muzzle was dripping water. A new technique? She pulled me up and carried me back into the house, laying my stiff body on the couch. Mei Ling's worried face came into view and I felt my body being massaged. Pretty soon, the blood was flowing again and I could move. "What the hell happened back there?" Alexis asked. "I sensed someone outside the house and started chasing him. He leapt over the wall, and I followed and you know what happened next." I replied, trying to get to my feet. I stumbled and sat back on the couch.

Mei Ling carried the static trap into the house and into her lab, probably to analyze it while I recovered. A few minutes later, she walked back up and lugged my Buster Sword down to her lab. I wondered if she was going to somehow upgrade the sword using the static trap. By now, Timmias and Kagome had woken up, and Alexis was trying to comb my hair down. My hair had been stiffened by the electrical shock, and Alexis had to pour water over my head to smoothen my hair.

"I wonder what that guy was after......" Alexis mumbled. I started flashing back through my memories, thinking about the keys.
