Chapter 63: Reacquaintance

Once I got back home I opened the door with my key and walked in. It was almost midnight. That damn ninja sure had wasted a lot of my time. The others were already sleeping, and I spotted cold dinner on the dining table. Oh well, back to herbs. Good thing I brought a lot back with me. I rummaged in my backpack for a while before pulling out a wide assortment of herbs.

I was already used to the herbs by now, so I wasn't moved by the bitter taste. After that quick dinner, I laid down on the sofa and closed my eyes. If I slept on my bed, It'd be rather uncomfortable. I fell asleep in a matter of seconds.

When I woke up, there was a blanket over me, and Alexis was sitting beside me. "You're up." She smiled. I nodded and got up. I looked at the clock to find that it was 5 a.m. in the morning. "You're up early." I remarked. "Couldn't sleep. I was worried about you. Judging by the hole in your blouse, I'd say I was right to be worried." She looked at the diamond-shaped hole in my blouse. "Bumped into a ninja who wanted to rape me. No problem, really." I pulled a sewing kit of out my backpack and took off my blouse. I turned it inside-out and took a sheet of black cloth from my backpack, folding it over the edges of the hole and sewing it. "You'll just walk around like that?" Alexis asked. "Hey, it's my new style." I smiled and put it on again.

I noticed a mosquito buzzing around the ceiling of the room and took a throwing needle from my pocket. I flicked it at the errant mosquito and pulled my hand back at the same time and the needle instantly shot back into my hand. To Alexis, it would seem that the bug had magically appeared on the needle. She looked amazed. I simply grinned and cleaned the bug's corpse off the needle, putting it back into my breast pocket.

"Where'd you get those?" Alexis indicated my throwing needles. "Magatia. It's a pretty nice weapon when you know how to use it." I flicked a needle lazily at another mosquito. A direct hit on the head. "I can enchant them with any element I know." I boasted, cleaning the bug corpse off the needle. "Fire." The needle turned red. "Lightning." The needle turned yellow and small electrical sparks shot out of it. "Poison." The needle turned purple. "And so on." I put the needle back. "Nice." She remarked.

I climbed down the ladder to the swimming pool with Alexis and we headed to the changing room. "That's your new swimsuit?" She inquired as we walked in. "Yep." I took a black swimsuit off the rack and took off my normal clothes. My new swimsuit was basically a bra and a bikini, only the bikini was in a perfect V shape and it reached my waist. I smiled as I changed into it and slapped my hips affectionately. "Wear that to a public pool, and the men will ogle you." Alexis remarked as she changed into hers. Her swimsuit was just a normal overall one. "I think something I ate made me like sexy clothes." I looked at myself. She raised an eyebrow sceptically.

A quick morning dip is always refreshing. I used to miss morning dips every morning I woke up in the Ariant Desert. Alexis seemed to have become quite a good swimmer during those 3 years I wasn't here. "Like being a level 300?" She smiled, floating on her back. I nodded and dived into the water. I let my chest streak the floor of the pool and chuckled gently. It was kind of ticklish. I broke the surface of the water like a dolphin and dived back in. "You're good." Alexis grinned.

Just as we were getting out of the pool, the doorbell rang. I quickly climbed up the ladder and shot to the door. "Coming!" I shouted and opened the door. A Ranger was standing in the doorway, looking relatively surprised. "Who're you?" We both said at the same time. He looked strangely familiar...... Alexis popped out of the swimming pool's trapdoor. "Hi, Xorten. When did you last come over?" She smiled. Xorten? Now that she said it...... "Haven't seen you for about three years now." I grinned. His face was still fixed onto me blankly.

"Alexis, who's she?" Xorten pointed at me. "Artemis." Alexis replied, smiling. Xorten's jaw instantly dropped. "What's the hold-up?" A voice said from behind Xorten and a Bandit popped up out of nowhere. I quickly got out of the way and Xorten walked in, still looking awestruck. His friend followed silently. "I brought a friend." He said, a tad unnecessarily. "I see." Alexis held her hand out, but I stopped her. "His name is Kon by the way." Xorten smiled. I could see shock in Alexis's eyes. Kon also had the same expression in his eyes. He was the one that had kidnapped and taken us to the Fidelo Corporation's underground lab.

Kon instantly drew his dagger, and I summoned my Archaeion. "Huh?" Xorten stared at us blankly. "You kidnapped us before." I muttered under my breath, then the Archaeion vanished. "I remember that clearly. Anyway, just to let you know, I was just following orders then. I'm a freelance mercenary." Kon kept his dagger out. "Mercenary, huh..." I said thoughtfully. "I'm not working with Fidelo anymore, he took my friend for some weird experiment, and now his brains are all messed up." He sheathed his dagger and stared into my eyes defiantly. I smiled and held out my hand. "Maybe we can help." I said. Kon stared at my hand for a moment. "Can you fix brain damage?" He whispered. "Let's just see what I can do to Fidelo for kidnapping me 3 years ago." I grinned devilishly. Alexis seemed to be bursting with anticipation.

Mei Ling was the first to wake up after Alexis and me. Apparently, she had slept in her lab. "Oh well, I juiced your sword up a little with laser-sharpened edges. I also replaced the tip with one that can burst-fire beams by utilizing the magic inside you. The sword itself can split into half, so have fun." She handed my Buster Sword back to me. I examined it. There were two buttons on the hilt. The red one, I presumed was the one that activated the beams. The black one was probably the split-in-half trigger.

"That's one big sword. Where'd you buy it?" Xorten looked at my sword. "Forged it myself." I said proudly and strapped it to my back. "Nice. Your sister told me about old maplers and new maplers by the way." He took a seat on the sofa beside Kon, who was looking rather subdued. I wondered if he had been like that ever since his friend was taken. Now I had more of a reason to go punch Hugo Fidelo in the face. Taking innocent people for experiments...... Unforgivable!
