Chapter 69: The Eternal Dream "Teach, you're dozing off again." someone said. I quickly sat up and rubbed my eyes. "Huh? Oh......" I sighed. Life as a teacher wasn't good, the pay was meagre and the students were always playing pranks on me. However, it was the only way for me to support myself since I wasn't good at anything else. "Artemis, you need to stop nodding off." Alexis was standing in the doorway, looking at me. "I need some rest." I mumbled and walked towards the door. "Don't you have an English period in class 3-E next?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. "Ooops, I'd better go now." I quickly ran for the door and charged towards class 3-E. When I walked in the door, the first thing that greeted me was a neatly placed duster that landed on my head. The entire class erupted with laughter as I shook the chalk dust out of my long, flowing black hair. "Oh, haha. Who did that?" I demanded. The class quietened down. Students began pointing at each other and I sighed again. This class was the hardest to handle out of all the classes in the school. Every teacher that walked in their door either received a bucket of water or a duster on the head, like me. I took my seat and a poopy cushion ignited. More laughing. I slammed my fist on the table and the class quietened down again. I really, really don't feel like teaching right now...... I stood up and shouted, "Whoever did that admit it or I'll......" Suddenly, my vision began to blur and I stumbled backwards into my seat. Most probably my exhaustion setting in, I had a rough night yesterday. "Teach?" someone asked as I fainted. "Miss Artemis, if you keep dozing off like that, it's not going to be good for the school's reputation!" the headmaster thundered. I kept my head low and apologized repeatedly. "Sorry isn't enough! Look, I'm giving you a last chance. Doze off again and I'm afraid you're fired." he sighed. "Oh thank you! Thank you so much!" I jumped off my seat and hugged the headmaster. He pushed me off and turned to Alexis. "Now, you! The students under you are starting to get out of hand!" he began to scold her. We left the headmaster's office a full hour later, with a sobbing Alexis. I patted her on the back as the end of school bell rang and students rushed out of their classes. I propped her to the lounge and proceeded to buy her a cup of coffee. *Sniff sniff* she cried softly. A nearby male teacher looked up from his book and asked, "What happened?" "Scolded by headmaster for letting students get unruly." I replied. She cried even harder. "I don't suggest you mention that for a while." the teacher adjusted his glasses and continued reading his book. Alexis was crying tears dangerously near her coffee, which she wasn't even drinking and I quickly moved it away. Coffee and salt wasn't a good combination. "He didn't *sob* have to scold me *sob* like that! *sob*" Alexis was still crying when we got to our secluded little apartment. I patted her gently on the back. The phone suddenly rang. I picked it up and a male voice said, "Hello? You got booked again. The peeves seem to really like you, Artemis." and hung up. The next moment, a slip of paper slid out of my pager. "I wish I picked a better part-time job." I sighed. Alexis looked up and the phone rang again. She asnwered it, wiping away her tears. "Seems like that guy that just booked Artemis wanted Alexis too. Lucky you two." the male voice said again and hung up. "Must I?" she looked at me. "He just HAD to live in a deserted mansion, did he?" Alexis grumbled as we trudged through the waist-height snow. Going out was a bad idea when the snow was this deep, but we needed the money. "Remind me why we took up part-time jobs as prostitutes again." she sighed. "I don't like it either, but it's about the only job that pays us enough." I pouted, rubbing my hands. It was so cold we could see our breath! "Reminds me of...... I forgot." she remarked. "If the headmaster finds out about our part-time jobs, he'll fire us for sure." Alexis brought up the subject yet again. "Just hope he doesn't." I swung open the gate and walked up the pathway towards an old-looking Victorian-style mansion that looked somewhat patchy. "Weaklings." the Chaos Balrog scoffed, stroking the naked bodies of two tiny girls in a shell. It continued ripping the cargo ship apart. |
