Chapter 51: Dangerous Mating

After an hour or two of trying on clothes, Alexis finally found a way to put them on. She was now cutting the back of her armour open with the Kotetsu, which appeared to be humming softly. She then put it on and asked me to strap the back part together. However, her wings kept getting in my way and she hurriedly apologized, "Sorry." I finished strapping her armour at last and she looked in her mirror. "At least it works......" she remarked and get into the rest of her armour. She had gotten new gauntlets and a new pair of boots from Daniel, who had gone out shopping a few days ago. I walked off to the archery range while Alexis went to show Fielda and Daniel her armour. The archery range was littered with arrows and Roy's Ilbi throwing stars.

"Hellfire!" I shouted, nocking six arrows to the Archaeion's string. The arrows flew out one by one in quick succession, bursting into flames mid-air. I decimated six targets at once with the skill. "Nice skill." Alexis remarked, emerging from the back door. She was holding the "Inner Beasts" book in her hand. She swept back her hair and sat down on a bench to read the book. I made the Archaeion disappear with a swish of my hand and sat down beside Alexis. "Anything interesting I should know about?" I inquired. Suddenly, her jaw dropped and she pointed at a paragraph.

Mating

The ancient art of mating between Inner Beasts. Inner Beasts have their own special ways of mating and creating new souls. The human way of sleeping together will not work if both people are hosts of Inner Beasts. Instead, Inner Beasts which live on the ground must bathe together under the light of the full moon. On the other hand, aerial Inner Beasts must journey to the highest peak in the world and plummet towards the ground with the host's bodies entwined together. You must keep your bodies stable and you may only break off when you feel a sudden burst of energy. Land and aerial Inner Beasts may not mate. These methods will produce an egg which you must keep warm and safe. It will hatch when the time comes.

"When did we get our first baby again?" Ivan asked me. I thought back to that day. Hey...... We had gotten the baby right after Silfa had tried to mutate me! That meant that the baby must have been some form of the green liquid! "I'm guessing our first baby was some form of that weird green liquid." I told him. He looked at me and said, "I'm ready when you are." I stared at him curiously. "Don't you have wings now?" Ivan laughed. "You're not really going to-" I spluttered. "Since you have wings like those, you should be able to fly. And if you can fly, that makes you an aerial Inner Beast, doesn't it?" he smiled. "But...... Where's the highest peak in the world?" I asked. Suddenly, it hit me. "El Nath." I breathed. "So are we going? The choice is up to you." Ivan said. "Let's go." I replied, running into the house. "Oh no, I don't think we need supplies." he called after me. "Why not?" I turned around. "All I need to do is use my Mass Teleport." he said calmly. "Oh, right." I walked back towards Ivan.

"Dark Dragon, do you want to do this?" Ivan asked. "You bet I do." the Dark Dragon replied. Great black wings and a tail burst out of his back and he chanted, "Dark powers within me, heed your masters awakening call and flood into my body! Level 2 Dark Dragon Form!" His body elongated and became black and scaly while his hands and feet became claws. His head also became that of a dragon's and his tail grew longer. The Siren said, "Might as well get on with it." and my armour disappeared. "Why does this have to happen everytime......" I grumbled as my legs melded together, forming a long green scaly tail. My brown hair grew longer and changed colour to red as my hands became green and scaly. "Let's go." Ivan nodded at me and took off. I flapped my wings as hard as I could and lifted up into the air. The feeling of flight was exhilirating!

The land below us looked small as we swept through the air, wings trailing air streams. We had just passed the cloudy skies of Orbis. I thought I heard someone yell, "What's that?" from below. I looked down for a second and when I looked back in front, Ivan was gone! "Ivan? Where are you?" I shouted. "Here!" his voice rang out from a nearby cloud. He flew out dripping wet. "Let's pick up the pace." I called over and went into a nosedive. Ivan followed. "Stop the dive! You'll......" he cried out just as I buried my head into the snow. "...... hit the snow..." he mumbled and pulled me out. I shook snow from my hair and started shivering. "Here. Fire Charm!" Ivan said. A necklace with a gem appeared around my neck. A fire appeared to be burning inside it. Instantly, I started to feel warm. "Let's go." Ivan said and lifted off again, much to the surprise of a nearby warrior. I sighed and took off. I accidentally buried the warrior to waist height with some snow that had been blown away when I flapped my wings. "Sorry!" I called back as he shook the snow off and stared at us.

A few minutes later we reached the Strambourne Peak, one of the highest peaks in the world. "Here we are." Ivan breathed. I could see his breath. "Shall we begin?" I asked timidly. "Yep." he said. We flew up higher and began entwining our bodies around each other while flapping our wings to hover and maintain balance. Ivan locked his claws around me while I put my hands around him as we began to plummet towards the ground......

I woke up beside Ivan, who was still in Dark Dragon form. His claws were locked around my body and my stomach was throbbing painfully. I clutched my stomach and broke free of his grasp. It felt so painful...... I tried to get up only to drop to the ground, feeling weak. "Alexis! What's going on?" Ivan had woken up. He ran to my side. "Stomach...... hurts..." I uttered as I spasmed. "We need to get you to a doctor!" he said and put me on his back. He grunted, but didnt complain. I felt his wings start to flap and we lifted up into the air. He carried me all the way to El Nath this way, but he never made it past the gate. His wings stopped flapping and we fell to the ground. He appeared to have fainted.
