Chapter 47: The Reaper of Light "Impact Cannon!" Ivan shouted and jumped into the air, nocking an arrow in mid-air. He let it go towards the ground as black streams of mana spiralled around the arrow. It hit the ground with an explosion and left a small crater. "The Impact Cannon's power depends on the gravitational force of the ground. Jumping into the air and shooting downwards will maximise it's effectiveness while shooting it normally will cause the arrow to drop to the ground upon launching." I read the skill description from the book, which was lying wide open on my lap. Ivan then walked over to me and looked at the book. "Quite handy." he remarked and tried firing an Impact Cannon normally. As expected, it fell to the ground harmlessly with a dull thud. "It's heavy." he added as he tried to put the arrow back in his quiver. The arrow sank through the bottom of the quiver and all of Ivan's arrows fell out. "You need a new quiver." I muttered as he stooped to pick up his arrows. He put them in his shirt temporarily and went inside the house, presumably to look for a new quiver. Ivan had been training hard ever since he regained his memory, although he did lose a tiny chunk of his power over that incident. The Kotetsu hung at my waist in its sheath, humming softly. It sure was alive. I pulled it out to try out a new move I had learnt: Runeblade Storm. "Runeblade Storm!" I shouted and traced multiple runes on the Kotetsu. The runes melded into it and I concentrated my mana into the blade. Clouds of blue mana billowed out of the holes in the blade as I felt the force running down my arm. I unleashed the attack towards a target. The Kotetsu seemed to extend its blade using the mana I had channeled and I directed multiple slashes at the target. It broke into a hundred pieces as I utilized the extra mana from the skill to pull off Final Attack. Pure mana shot through my arm and into the katana, causing my arm to tremble. I hit the ground with the attack and caused a bit of an explosion. When the smoke cleared, the target had been completely annihilated. My arm, however, wasn't a pretty sight. The mana running through it had opened a gash in it and blood was flowing out. I gritted my teeth and dripped some white potion on it. "Very nice." a voice said from the fence. I turned to look at the newcomer. It was a Wizard that seemed oddly familiar. As he stepped out of the shadow of a tree, the light revealed Marco. "Alexis! Get outta there! Strafe!" Daniel yelled from the balcony as four yelled-coloured arrows flew over my head at Marco. he easily teleported away and attempted to fry me with a lightning bolt. I would've been stunned if the Kotetsu hadn't taken the attack. It buzzed violently and launched the bolt back at Marco. His eyes widened in horror and he ducked the bolt, which singed his hair. He stood up angrily, muttering, "No one messes with my hair! Cold Beam!" A burst of ice emerged from his palm and headed towards me. I screamed and held the Kotetsu in front of me like a shield, closing my eyes. Nothing happened. I opened my eyes to see the icy projectile suspended in mid-air. It then flew back towards Marco, who teleported out of the way only to get blown off his feet. Ivan landed beside me, bow smoking from the Impact Cannon he had just used. He silently nocked another arrow to his string and vanished. Marco's eyes darted around, scanning the surroundings for Ivan. Suddenly, an arrow grazed his arm. He turned around to see Ivan vanishing again. 'What the......" he flinched as an arrow whizzed past his ear. Again, he turned around to see Ivan vanishing. "Darn it! Lightning Bolt!" he yelled and fired multiple lightning bolts in a circle around him. He never expected the next attack. An Impact Cannon hit the ground behind him, blowing him off his feet. He got up and hurriedly stuffed an Ice Cream Pop into his mouth. Rejunevated, he looked up to see Ivan's feet in his face. "Bye." Ivan said and slammed Marco into a nearby tree with a spinning kick. I brought my Kotetsu out and yelled, "Mana Blast!" I pointed it at Marco and a ball of mana formed at the tip of the sword, sucking mana through the numerous holes in the katana. "Discharge!" I shouted and the ball flew towards Marco. His eyes widened and he grasped his staff. "Magic Guard!" he commanded, forming a shield in front of him to block the mana blast. He was pushed back a few meters and he sank to the ground, panting. I saw Ivan headed my way and he was making hand signals. I nodded and lowered my hands to the ground. Ivan jumped onto my hands and I gave him a boosted jump into the air. Marco looked up and squeaked, "Eeep." "IMPACT CANNON!!!" Ivan yelled out loud as he launched an arrow at Marco from above. The arrow flew downwards and exploded smack in his face, blowing him a whole 100 meters away. "How'd you disappear like that?" I asked Ivan. He smiled and gestured at the book, which lay open at his skill page. A skill called "Camouflage" caught my eye. "Neat." I gave Ivan a thumbs up and went to check on Marco. He was lying on the ground, eyes closed and blood seeping out of wounds on his body. When I put my ear to his chest, I heard a very faint pulse, which stopped after a few seconds. He was dead. "Our first kill......" Ivan muttered, striding over to the dead body. "Stay back. I'll send his soul to the afterlife. May he rest in peace." Daniel suddenly appeared behind us. He nocked an arrow at the body and muttered, "Inferno." We stepped back as a fiery arrow shot out of his bow and incinerated the body. He kneeled down and clasped his hands together, muttering a string of verses. "He may be a bad guy, but he deserves a proper burial as much as all of us do when we die." Daniel said calmly and returned to the house. We looked at each other and nodded. We left the fire burning and returned to the house with Daniel. |
