Chapter 44: Revelations "Ivan! Come over here!" I ushered Ivan into the library after we finishing tying up the unconscious Assasin, making sure he was completely unarmed and locking him tight inside a room. The "Inner Beasts" book was still where I had left it, on the reading table. Ivan gasped when he saw it. "Where'd you get it?" he asked. I replied, "I found it on the table earlier, I don't know who sent it. Anyway, look at this!" I flipped to the chapter entitled "A list of Inner Beasts and their respective histories" and pointed at a random set of runes, which the Dark Dragon immediatly recited, "Fuh noh mu kah zan!". Words lit up on the page, "The Ancient History of the Inner Beasts". A lot more paragraphs lit up under the title, which were scribed neatly. The Ancient History of The Inner Beasts In the ancient lands of MapleStory, gods once reigned, their hands quiding the maplers in their everyday tasks. They were worshipped by the maplers and special areas were built for them. Among them, were the goddess Sakreh and the god Ubelius. Those two were the gods of the gods, possessing power to move mountains and empty oceans. The land thrived under their capable hands and grew larger and larger, with the gods making new land as they advanced. This continent was named Furindar. Eventually, the powers of the gods reached their limits and most of them passed away, save for Sakreh and Ubelius. The two of them decided to stop expanding the continent for fear of completely losing their powers and built massive castles on the land. Gujindal was Ubelius's castle while Jungihut was Sakreh's. A few years later, while Sakreh and Ubelius were living their lives away peacefully, a hole opened in space itself and demons came into the world. Those demons attacked and slaughtered the population, forcing the two gods to ride out of their castles and fight. The demons were beaten back, but at a high price. Sakreh received a unreparable wound to her chest while Ubelius was rammed through his heart by a spear. However, when the demon leader fell, he swore, "We will come back, and destroy your petty little world! There are more of us than you could ever imagine behind that portal!". Sakreh feared his words and started to have nightmares during her sleep. Ubelius was not bothered and built up an army of capable warriors. Eventually, when the demons did come back, the two factions engaged in battle. Both suffered tremendous losses and the demons managed to set up camp in the epic center of the continent. Sakreh sent help, but her army was weak and ran away as soon as they saw the demons. A month later, Ubelius approached Sakreh and said, "We must use the last portions of our powers to banish the demons from this world. However, I am afraid that the demons will keep coming again and again and then, this world will no longer have any defenses." Sakreh agreed, slightly trembling. They decided to create new warriors to help them fight out of the last shreds of their powers. Those warriors were called Inner Beasts. The gods created twelve in total, depleting their power reserves to near empty. They agreed that the Inner Beasts would be able to transcend time itself and remain immortal as long as the bearers gave birth. They then used their last remaining power to create a massive earthquake on Furindar. A lot of people died, but the demons were eradicated from the face of that world. Part of Furindar split off to become the islands which we know today, Ossyria and Ludibrium. The price was great, both the gods died from overexerting their powers, but the Inner Beasts remained to combat the demons. The one remaining large island was named Victoria Island. A few years later, the world had settled into peacefulness again, and was ruled by a queen called Torteliangra. She governed the people with her fair hands and created the cities Henesys, Ellinia, Perion, Kerning, Lith Harbour and lastly, Sleepywood. Also, she selected various people to govern these cities. Henesys and Lith Harbour shared the same governor, while the Queen herself resided in Sleepywood. Those people are the descendants of the four job masters which we know today. Under her rule, the cities thrived and expanded their borders. One day, the Queen was approached by a stranger cloaked in black. The stranger requested to have a private talk with her and they went to her bedroom. The stranger uncloaked himself, revealing a demon. The Queen shrieked and cried for help, only to have the demon enter her mind, corrupting her greatly. The whole island fell into chaos as she ordered houses razed and people slaughtered. The Inner Beasts awoke from their slumber in the depths of residents and rose up to combat the Queen. They would execute their duties silently and without any deaths, usually putting people to sleep or altering their memories. A resistance was also formed to help aid the Inner Beasts, but most of their high ranking members were assassinated once the Queen found out. The Inner Beasts teleported into the Queen's castle using the Mass Teleport spell of the Aegis, who was able to teleport more than 12 people compared to the Dark Dragon, who was only able to teleport a maximum of 6. They swept through the corridors, putting guards to sleep silently and approached the Queen. The Queen changed form into a hideous winged demon and took to the skies, engaging the Inner Beasts in battle. The Inner Beasts barely managed to defeat her and a few suffered terrible wounds. The Cascada lost a leg and the Minotaur was scarred on its right eye. After the defeat of the Queen, Victoria Island became peaceful again, due to the efforts of the governors. They stretched themselves to the limit trying to bring the island back to normal. Demons now rarely appeared, and when one did, an Inner Beast awoke to banish it. New cities were established at the islands that had broken off, Ossyria and Ludibrium, forming the city in the sky known to all as Orbis, the snowy El Nath, toy-like Ludibrium and the technologically advanced Omega Sector. The original governors left for El Nath, leaving their subordinates in charge. The subordinates followed in their master's footsteps, causing the island to blossom with prosperity and peacefulness. The words disappeared as soon as we had finished reading and Ivan breathed deeply. "I never knew the Inner Beast's history was like this. Must have been a rough time." he remarked and closed his eyes. The Dark Dragon said, "I never knew that our history ran that deep. I believe the Exzas Beasts will come in on the next sub chapter." I looked at the next page and found another set of runes, which even the Dark Dragon didn't understand. "Probably must be read by an Exzas Beast." the Siren remarked. I ran my hand through my hair and scratched my forehead. "Anyway, it's getting late. Let's go to sleep." Ivan said, looking at a clock on the wall. "Yeah." I replied and we walked up the stairs to our bedroom, falling asleep the moment we landed on the bed. |
