Chapter 43: The Strange Book

"Idiot." I muttered as I tied the unconsious Assasin to a chair and locked the door firmly. Ivan was sleeping peacefully on his bed, still tied up as well. Saevio was such a coward, forcing Ivan to attack me like that! I really needed to get him back someday. Fielda was doing the laundry and I waved at her as I walked past. She replied with a cheery wave and accidentally dropped a blanket on herself. Oh well, like mother like daughter I guess. Keichii was playing Blackjack with Roy, who appeared to be cheating again. I pulled a card out from under his shirt. He turned red and hastily turned his clothes inside out. A lot of cards fell out and Keichii glared at Roy. Seriously, Roy would never change...... I headed to the library to read some books and strangely, a thick black coloured book with gold bindings was on the reading table. I dusted it and checked the title. It read, "Inner Beasts" How did this get here? I flipped the cover open and looked at the table of contents:

Table of contents
Chapter 1: What an Inner Beast is. - pg 1-2
Chapter 2: The Families. - pg 3
Chapter 3: A list of Inner Beasts and their respective histories. - pg 4-50
Chapter 4: The Inner Beast's powers. - Pg 50-100
Chapter 5: The symptoms of having an Inner Beast. - pg 101-104
Chapter 6: What an Exzas Beast is. - pg 105-106
Chapter 7: A list of Exzas Beasts and their respective histories. - pg 106-140
Chapter 8: The powers of the Exzas Beasts. - pg 140 - 210
Chapter 9: Centurion Mode. - pg 211 - 300

I was intrigued by the Centurion Mode and turned to the back only to find that the book only got to page 210. Must be a pretty powerful mode to occupy 90 pages...... The Siren remarked, "This book looks pretty old. I wonder how it got here?". The only abnormal thing I could spot was a small lump on the floor, which seemed to tremble, as if something was moving around in it. I ignored it and checked Chapter 4 for the Dark Dragon's powers. Strangely, the pages were empty, save for a few arcane runes on the pages. "Hold on, I can read them. Guh nob jak gub nig dup!" the Siren chanted and words appeared on the pages. "Probably to keep unwanted visitors from reading it." the Siren remarked. The page filled up with pictures of special skills and techniques, among them, the Hyperion Blast and the Stellar Combo. The pictures glowed as I moved my finger over them, before finally coming to rest on a picture of a bow being tapped on a person's head, which was labeled, "Memory Wipe". "Juh fu gat peh fut nub!" the Siren chanted as I ran my finger over more arcane runes beside the picture. Suddenly, a hologram appeared, hovering over the book. A person chanted, "Power of the Dark Dragon, clear this person's memory of what happened during the last hour! Memory Wipe!" and tapped another person on the head lightly. The person that was tapped immediatly fell asleep and the hologram disappeared. "Neat." I remarked, flipping over to the Siren's page. "Kuh guk ya tol mun!" the Siren chanted and words and pictures immediatly materialized out of thin air on the pages. One of the skills that intrigued me was Maelstrom. As the Siren chanted more words, another hologram appeared in the air, this time with a person holding a sword to the air and chanting, "Light of the moon and water of the oceans, merge your powers with each other and heed my command! Maelstrom!". Light and water gathered at his sword and he pointed it at a spot in the water, pushing the power out of his sword by channeling mana into it. A huge whirlpool appeared in the water and the hologram turned into that of a quiet sea after a while. "I suppose it wants you to try it out." the Siren remarked as a sword appeared in my hand. "Light of the moon and water of the oceans, merge your powers with each other and heed my command! Maelstrom!" I shouted and pointed my sword at the water in the hologram, focusing my mana into it. Light and water twirled around my sword a few times before launching at the spot in the water I had indicated. A second later, there was a whirlpool there. Words appeared in the middle of the hologram, reading, "This skill may only be used in the proximity of a light source and water." and the hologram faded away into nothingness.

"What the heck is going on!? Someone untie me, please!" a shout came from upstairs and I closed the book and ran upstairs. Ivan was awake and Fielda was pointing her sword at him. "Mother, point that sword away please, it's me." Ivan said calmly. The voice of the Dark Dragon spoke, "It's him all right, he's got his memory back." I cheered and hugged a crying Fielda. "Now can you untie me? These ropes are kinda tight." Ivan said crossly. I cut his ropes and he sat up and stretched. "Guess I'll need to watch what I do next time." he scratched his forehead. "We caught the Assasin that tried to maplenap mother. Come see!" I said cheerily and grabbed Ivan's head, pulling him down into the store, only to gape at an empty chair and cut ropes on the floor. "What the...... How did he escape?" I searched the storeroom frantically and found him hiding in a carelessly opened box with a dagger in his hand. "That would explain how he escaped." Ivan remarked, striding over to me and knocking the Assasin on the neck with his elbow. He fell to the floor unconscious. He was stupid enough not to escape out of a street-level window locked from the inside, and yet he was smart enough to hide a dagger under his clothes. What an idiot.
