Chapter 42: Fragments I blinked and sat up. A strange brown-haired girl suddenly hugged me and I felt tears running down her cheeks. "Who are you?" I asked blankly. She broke away from me suddenly. Then again, who am I? I looked around my surroundings to find myself in a house. The girl held my hand and said, "My name is Alexis. Your's is Ivan." Suddenly, I felt like a bolt of lightning had flashed through my head and I clutched my head in pain. Strange flashbacks were happening in my mind, one of them being sucked into a strange device. Alexis quickly laid me down on the bed and she left the room. A while later, she returned with something in her hand. There was a photo of her and me standing together smiling, and we were in wedding clothes! More scenes flashed through my mind and I shrieked in pain, clutching my head. She hugged me tightly and I felt the pain decrease slightly. I sank into the pillow, panting. Alexis started to cry and she left the room. I looked at her and wondered who she actually was. The photo suggested that we were husband and wife. Suddenly, a wet handkerchief closed around my mouth and I felt myself losing consiousness. What the hell was going on!? Alexis...... "Ivan......" I cried silently in Fielda's room. She put her hand on my shoulder and reassured me, "Ivan will get his memory back sooner or later, it's just a matter of time.". She pulled me to my feet and went to do some ironing. I went into Ivan's room and...... he was gone! I searched the whole room for any trace of him but there were none, excepting our wedding photo on the bed. I called the others and they ran up. They all gasped when they saw the empty room. "Where the heck did he go!?" Roy asked, frantically opening drawers. "I don't know! I just walked into the room and he was gone!" I answered, closing my eyes and preparing to do a search for other strange energies. "Mind's Eye!" I muttered and closed my eyes. Strange, I could sense something faint just above the bed. A return scroll had been used here recently. An abnormal return scroll, to be exact. Other return scrolls did not leave energy like that around. "Ivan's been maplenapped." I announced and Fielda froze. "A return scroll was just used here. There's a bit of its energy still around." I added, pointing at the ceiling. Fielda closed her eyes and muttered, "Mind's Eye." She opened her eyes again with a gasp. 'No...... Ivan!!!" I cried out loud. A few days later, I was still crying over Ivan's loss. The house lost its usual air of cheeriness and became grim and tense. Even Keichii didn't feel like dueling Fielda and opted to kick dirt away in the backyard. The archery range fell into disrepair without Ivan to take care of it, while the dojo and library were barely used. Roy was juggling his stars around but more than half the time, he dropped them on his feet and howled in pain. The mood shifted one day though, while I was doing the laundry. A figure stepped out from a nearby rock and looked at me. A second later, an arrow went whizzing past my ear. "What the...... Who's there!? Show yourself!" I shouted, unsheathing my sword. The figure stepped out of the shadow of the rock and I gasped. Ivan stood there, nocking another arrow to his bowstring. The arrow's tip grazed my arm and left a small bleeding cut. "Ivan!" I shouted and blocked another arrow. "I won't let you take over the world!" he replied and launched another arrow at me. "What the heck are you talking about!?" I said, easily blocking the arrow. He was pretty easy to beat without his powers. Then again, why wasn't he using them? He fired a volley of arrows at me, which I easily blocked. I jumped to his back and held his arms tightly. He struggled to get free, but he was quite weak. I easily slammed him onto the floor and pinned his arms to the ground. "Oh yeah?" he remarked and punched me in the stomach. I keeled over and Ivan got free. He immediatly loaded another arrow and fired it at me. The arrow stuck itself in my left arm and I gritted my teeth. I didn't usually bring my potions out while at home, so I was forced to take the pain head-on. He fired more arrows, which hit my legs and right arm. I fell to the ground, immobilized. He aimed another arrow at my heart and prepared to let go. "Ivan!!!!!!" I shouted at the tip of my voice. His bow and arrow suddenly dropped to the ground and he clutched his head in pain. "What's..... this......" he said weakly before collapsing to the ground. A door slammed back at the house and Keichii and Roy ran out. They quickly pulled out the arrows stuck in my arms and legs and pulled Ivan in, firmly strapping him to a bed. Fielda dripped white potions on my wounds and I went to sit at Ivan's side. I buried my head in his chest and cried softly. Suddenly, one of his hands lifted up limply and put itself on my back. I stopped crying and looked at Ivan. The Dark Dragon said, "Ivan is slowly regaining his memories, so stay calm. Saevio ordered him maplenapped earlier and extended his hand to him to join the Dark Ten, telling him that we were trying to take over the world and that the Dark Ten would stop us. I could only lay dormant as Ivan accepted the offer and left to defeat you. The memory seal blocked me from talking to him. I am only able to talk when he's sleeping." I looked at Ivan's eyes. Indeed, they were completely black, like the Dark Dragon's. "I must go now. He's waking up. Keep him restrained until he completely regains his memory. You may speed up the process by showing him things familiar to him." the Dark Dragon added and Ivan's eyes closed. When they opened again, his eyes were back to normal and he began to struggle. "Let me outta here, you bastards!" he shouted. I said, "Shut up! Siren, are you ready?" The Siren replied, "I'm ready when you are." I muttered, "Siren, embodiment of ice and water, awaken!". My armour disappeared into thin air, allowing my legs to meld together to form a long green scaly tail. My brown hair grew longer and changed colour into silver. My hands became green and scaly too. Ivan's jaw dropped as he gazed at me. Suddenly, he had another one of those spasms and he yelled in pain. I quickly put my hands around his head. His pain seemed to cease and he panted slightly. I then planted a kiss on his lips. His face grew red and he passed out. Hopefully he would regain his memory completely when he woke up again. Suddenly, a stupid-looking face looked in the window. When I looked at him, blood sprouted out of his nostrils and he hurriedly wiped the blood off. I snuck my tail out another nearby window and tapped him on his back with my tail. When he looked back, I closed my arms around his neck from inside the house and dragged him in. He was the Assasin that had maplenapped Fielda! |
