Chapter 40: Besieged "Let her sleep. She's too tired." I heard someone say as I opened my eyes slowly. Lynx was sitting beside me and she smiled as I got up groggily, rubbing my eyes. "Thank goodness you're okay." Lorelei said, walking into the room with Zephyr. The blue-haired hunter closed the door behind him and put a box on my bed. "Here's Zakum's heart. You need it right?" he said and opened it. A pulsing heart-shaped object sat in the box. "I'll help her keep that." Lynx said, closing the box and tying a rope around it. She put it in my backpack and went out the door. "You're amazing." Lorelei added, gesturing towards the box. I sighed and laid down on the bed. "You need some rest. That transformation took a lot outta you." Zephyr said. I stole a glance at my chest to find the Exzas Mark coloured red. "A red coloured Exzas Mark means your body is still charging for the next transformation." Lorelei said, having noticed my eyes moving. "Has your......" I asked. "Nope, it hasn't. My Exzas Beast hasn't awakened yet." she replied. I fell asleep after an hour of chatting. "Get the injured outta here! Hey you, watch your back!" Shouts rang out from the street as I got up and looked out the window. Suddenly, a head of white fur looked in the window and I gasped. A small yeti was in the window. It squeaked and jumped into my arms. It didn't seem to be hostile and I petted it on the back. Suddenly, Lynx burst into the room, her sword unsheathed and she looked at the yeti in my arms. "You know, that's supposed to be dangerous." she remarked and strode over to me. I cuddled it and it gave out a playful squeak. "But it's so cute......" I replied. "Get dressed, the town is being attacked." she said, opening a closet to reveal my armour and my sword. A sudden explosion came from outside and I glanced out. A snow-coloured drake was smashing a stove into pieces. "That Ice Drake isn't supposed to be here!" someone yelled and an arrow pierced through its head. It fell to the ground and Zephyr ran out from a nearby building. He saw me looking out the window and waved at me before jumping into the air and smashing his bow down on a large yeti's head. I quickly got dressed and gave the small yeti a hug. I then ran out the door only to bump into something brown and furry. Saliva dripped down onto my shoulder plate and I looked up. A werewolf towered above me, fangs bared and poised to strike. Suddenly there was a cry of "Get out of the way!" and the fiery tip of an arrow burst through the werewolf's chest. It keeled over and fell. Lorelei was standing behind the corpse, looking grim. I hurriedly unsheathed my sword only to get knocked down by a sudden shockwave. My sword flew out of my hands and stuck itself firmly in the ground. The culprit, a huge yeti, was preparing to slam its hands into the ground when a sword suddenly burst out of its chest. It fell to the ground in a pool of its own blood as Lynx charged towards another huge yeti that was punching a house into pieces. I retrieved my sword, hit the blade with my palm and shouted, "Hailstorm!". Shards of ice flew out of my sword and pierced through some nearby monsters. Suddenly, a bolt of black lightning hit me on my back and I fell to the ground. I turned around to see a Crimson Balrog baring its teeth at me. "That's not supposed...... Holy shyt!!!" Zephyr cried out as another Crimson Balrog appeared out of nowhere and sent a black lightning bolt at him. He rolled out of the way just in time and fired an arrow at it. It easily blocked the arrow with a wing and roared. "What the hell is...... AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!" a nearby magician screamed as a lightning bolt hit him squarely in the chest. A second later, he was a rock statue. "What the...... Guys! Don't get hit by the lightning bolts! They'll turn you into stone!" Lorelei shouted, conjuring a shield out of thin air to block a lightning bolt. "These aren't normal Crimsons!" Zephyr yelled as he deflected a lightning bolt with an arrow bomb. "Let's get the hell outta here!" Lynx shouted, hiding behind a stone tree as a Balrog shot lightning bolts at her. I put my hand to my back and felt nothing but my bare skin. The lightning bolt must have destroyed my back armour plate. But how was I not turned into stone? The Siren answered, "It's because of your blood." Yet another Crimson Balrog flew out of the sky and aimed a lightning bolt at me. I looked behind me to see a few children crying and shaking a stone statue of a Ranger. I needed to keep these children safe! Looking around for something to use as a shield, I quickly held my sword tightly as the lightning bolt flew towards me. I braced myself for impact. However, I felt nothing and the Balrog suddenly toppled out of the sky and broke into a million pieces in front of me. It had turned into stone! I looked at my sword to find a black-coloured blade. It turned back to normal after a while and the stone statue of the Ranger got its colour back. The children stopped crying and hugged him. The Ranger hurriedly got up and carried the children away. SO that was how to bring them back to normal...... I quickly ran through the town, raising my sword to deflect the lightning bolts back at the Crimson Balrogs. A few hours later, I sank to the ground panting. My sword suddenly broke into pieces and another Crimson Balrog appeared in front of me. Those guys were endless! I ran towards it and started punching it, only to be dangled in the air by one of the Balrogs claws. It began to charge up a lightning bolt in its free hand only to get conked on the head by the flat edge of a sword. The lightning bolt self-destructed and turned the Balrog into stone. "They're easy to kill once you figure out when to hit them." Lynx stepped over the stone statue and tripped. "Whoops." she said calmly as her sword stuck itself in the chest of the petrified Balrog. Part of my armour had turned into stone when the lightning bolt self-destructed so I took those parts off and gladly accepted a new suit of armour from Lynx. "How many times must I buy new armour for you?" she remarked crossly and punched an incoming werewolf in the face. Its teeth shattered and it ran away, howling in pain. By the end of the day, most of the monsters had been slain and some had run away. I went back into my room to find the small yeti peeking in my closet with something in its mouth. "Hey...... thats...!" I quickly pulled the object out of its mouth. It was me and Ivan's wedding photo. I kept it in my backpack all the time. The photo was covered in saliva now though, so I put it in front of a fireplace. The yeti squeaked and jumped into my arms again. "Now, now, don't eat my stuff. Okay?" I petted it and it purred softly. I guess I had found myself a new pet. Lorelei walked into the room and remarked, "I think it's getting attached to you...... How sweet...". She petted the yeti only to get bitten. "You need to teach it some manners!" she said crossly, wringing her fingers. "Sorry." I apologized. Lorelei, Lynx, Zephyr and me had a good night's sleep and the next day, I decided to go back home. Wait, how was I supposed to get back home? I asked Lynx and she replied, "Go to the twentieth floor of Orbis Tower to reach Orbis. There, you can catch a ship back to Victoria." I thanked her and ran to the tower. "Is this supposed to be here?" my jaw dropped as I opened my backpack and a furry object leapt into my arms. It squeaked. |
