Chapter 37: The Dead Mine "Ahhchooo!" I sneezed as we trudged through the snow. Lynx threw something at me and I caught it and drank it. "Red bean soup. It'll keep you warm for a while." she explained, drinking one herself. It was so cold I could see our breath. Sure enough, I felt my body heat increase and we continued. As night fell, we looked for a place to stay for the night. The area was dotted with ominous-looking trees. Lynx quickly found a cave and pulled me in, only to run into some bats. "Ahhhh!!! Get away from me!" I yelled and shooed the bats away. "Don't do that! You'll...... Don't look back." she hissed at me and I heard her unsheathing her sword. A minute later, I turned around and found 6 dead zombies on the cave floor. Lynx calmly sheathed her sword and turned to me. "If you make any loud noises, the zombies will come and attack us." she whispered in my ear. We quickly laid our sleeping bags on the floor and went to sleep uneasily. "Wake up." I heard Lynx whisper in my ear and I sat up. I looked outside and gasped. She quickly put her hand over my mouth and blocked the gasp. A lot of zombies were walking around outside, arms outstretched. We were horrified. I looked at Lynx to find her forming letters with her hands. "S-n-e-a-k-p-a-s-t-t-h-e-m" she formed these letters in rapid succession. I nodded and prepared to sneak outside. Suddenly, I stepped on a twig. The zombies suddenly turned around and started walking towards me. I froze as a zombie walked nearer to me. It waved its arms around, barely missing my arm and walked off. I heaved a sigh of relief and the zombie suddenly turned around again and spit something at me. It landed on my chest plate and melted it, exposing part of my chest. It started spitting more acid at me as I ran away. Lynx followed me, acid landing on the snow behind us. We ran away as fast as we could towards a separate cave. Suddenly, zombies appeared in front of the entrance, blocking it. Lynx and I unsheathed our swords and started hacking and slashing. However, the zombies simply came back to life when we killed them and continued attacking us. Lynx hacked her way through the zombies towards the cave entrance while I followed closely behind her. The zombies turned away when we entered and continued their wandering. We continued through the cave, slashing any stray zombies that got in our way until we reached a cave full of lava. "It's scorching hot here!" I yelled as a small blob of lava landed on my foot. "Yeah, no kidding." Lynx replied as a fireball flew past her head. A group of huge bulldogs with spiked collars stood glaring at us on a nearby platform. They started shooting out fireballs at us as we ran for it. "Youch!" I yelled as a fireball hit my back armour plate. It instantly melted and exposed my bare back. Another fireball whizzed past Lynx's leg. "These guys have a serious case of dehydration." she said jokingly. "This is no time for...... OUCH!" I screamed as a fireball hit my leg. Fortunately, my armour took the brunt of the attack and melted, leaving my leg intact. I wouldn't be able to survive two hits on the same spot. We ran for our lives past hundreds more bulldogs, getting most of our armour burnt off and we eventually reached a cavern. "I paid a lot for this suit of armour!" I complained as I looked at what was left of my armour. There was only an arm plate left. Lynx was lucky, her armour was only missing her arm and leg plates. I looked around for my backpack and cursed, it was gone. Most probably it had been hit by a fireball and melted. Lynx's backpack was still fine though. She gave me a new set of armour and I put them on. She replaced her own arm and leg plates as we continued into the tunnel. We were now in the maze of tunnels Rene had mentioned and I retrieved the map, which I had hidden in between my breasts. "What would the men say if they saw where you put that?" Lynx remarked, smiling. I ignored her and continued on with the aid of Rene's map. More than often, Lynx had to stand on my shoulder and climb onto a ledge and then hoist me up. We traveled for an hour through the caves until we reached a humongous cavern. "Are these supposed to be here?" I asked, staring into the face of a bulldog. "Nope." Lynx replied and stabbed her sword into the bulldog's head. She pulled it out and glanced at the crowd of monsters in the cavern, which had turned their attention to us and were now snarling and growling at us. "Siren, embodiment of ice and water, awaken!" I shouted. My armour disappeared as my legs melded together, forming a long green scaly tail. My hands grew green and scaly and my brown hair changed colour into silver. I sheathed my sword and said, "Water, power of the oceans, become my weapon! Aqua Blade!". Flecks of water in the air started to gather in my hand, only to disappear. I tried again, with the same result. "It's too hot in here!" Lynx shouted to me, whacking a bulldog on the head with her shield and stabbing it through its heart. The Siren explained, "Only the Exzas Beast is powerful enough to create water out of nothing. However, you may only execute Exzas Mode once a day. There is an alternative, you may use water from your own body to create the sword. This will dehydrate you and weaken your powers temporarily though." I shouted, "Water, power of the oceans, gather from my body into my hand and become my weapon! Aqua Blade!". I felt myself growing weaker as water was siphoned out of my body into my hands to form a sword. I decided to try something new and I cut my wrist with the sword. Blood dripped out of it and into the water of the sword, turning it red. I quickly dripped orange liquid from a bottle onto it and healed the wound. "Blood Tsunami Strike!" I shouted and swung my blood-red sword in an arc. Red-coloured water appeared and rolled out in the form of a huge wave. All the monsters were either swept off their feet or forced to drink the water. Those who did so collapsed to the ground immediatly and died. Suddenly, pain shot through my body and I fell to the ground, writhing in pain. There were cuts all over my body and I was bleeding severely. Lynx quickly ran to me while severing the head of a nearby bulldog who tried to sink its teeth into me. I got up painfully and shouted, "Blood Tsunami Strike! Slash Mode!". My sword extended by several metres and I swung it. Lynx ducked the slash as it walloped off the head of several bulldogs and cut some in half. After that, pain shot through my body yet again and the cuts opened up wider. I screamed and fell to the ground again. A pool of blood was slowly forming around me as I tried to get up. I struggled to keep my sword steady and got ready to perform another Blood Tsunami Strike. However, when I tried to swing it, my hands stopped and fell to my sides limply. The sword fell to the ground and disintegrated back into water and blood. I fell to the ground limply as Lynx fought for our lives, slashing left, right and center. The image of Ivan in my mind started to disappear as I grew faint from too much blood loss. "Sorry...... Iva.....Ivan...... I.. fa....failed...y..yo....you......" I muttered weakly as my life force started to slip away. Suddenly, my cuts began to mend themselves and my blood retreated back into my body. "You're just going to give up and die!? Is that it!?" the Leviathan shouted. "Get *slap* a *slap* hold *slap* of *slap* yourself!!! *slap slap slap*" it yelled and I felt my cheeks being slapped roughly. I got up, my eyes becoming completely green. My arms became completely green and scaly as my hair changed colour into green and grew even longer. Lynx glanced at me and gasped as I formed a sword out of air and grasped it tightly. A second later, the sword had become water. "This is for Ivan! Elemental Modification!" I shouted and traced multiple arcane symbols in the air. The air suddenly turned into water and Lynx tried to hold her breath only to find that she could breathe. Some of the monsters however, were drowning and a bulldog that had opened its mouth to shoot a fireball at us hurriedly closed its mouth and swam towards me. The others quickly caught on and started to swim towards me, preparing to go in close. "Time Rift!" I shouted and my sword started to glow white. I slashed a rip in the water and opened up a black hole. All the bulldogs started swimming away in shock as the black hole started to suck them in. The water wasn't disturbed by the hole. A few minutes later, the bulldogs were gone and the water became air again. I reverted back to normal and fell to the ground, coughing out blood. "That was amazing! How did you do that!?" a wet Lynx asked me, shaking the water out of her blond hair. I replied weakly, "I don't know.....*cough*" and fainted. |
