Chapter 35: Attacked "Darn it! I'm going to miss the ship!" I thought as I dashed through the green forests of Ellinia towards the Sixtopia Station. As I ran in the gate, I skidded to a halt in front of the ticketing station, asking, "How much for a ticket?". The clerk looked up from her magazine and replied, "8000 mesos.". I put 8000 mesos on the counter and she gave me a ticket. I quickly ran for the ship as the horn blew and jumped onto it, barely managing to hold onto the railing. I pulled myself up and looked around. The ship was crowded with people on holiday and some people who were minding their own buisness. I went to the bow of the ship and inhaled some fresh air. Air like this was quite hard to come across in Perion and Kerning City, for it was usually polluted with smoke. I pulled out the Relaxer chair Fielda had given me when I was still a little girl and sat on it, gazing at the sky. I wondered how Ivan was doing. Suddenly, the ship shuddered as it went through an air pocket and I fell off my chair, as did many others. They got up, brushed off the dust on their clothes crossly and sat down again. I folded up my chair and went onto the sail. I could see some children playing and running around on the deck as some of the passengers laughed at those that had slipped. I smiled and retrieved my cellphone from my back pocket, intending to call back home. Suddenly, the prow of a black coloured ship suddenly poked out of the clouds. I gasped and quickly ran for the cabin, tucking my cellphone back into my pocket. The other passengers were also running in quickly, some screaming, some trembling. I was suddenly pushed back by a hysteric wizard who locked the cabin door behind him and sealed it. Some people were trapped outside and began ramming the door. Inside, I could hear the wizard screaming. I looked at the prow of the ship as it began to descend and ram our ship. I started to shiver as two Crimson Balrogs leapt off the ship and landed on our deck, snarling. I drew my sword and prepared to fight, but the other passengers were shrinking back, excepting a Crusader, who drew his sword and stood beside me. He motioned for me to retreat and charged with a shout. I stood back as he went into battle, furiously swinging his sword repeatedly at a nearby Crimson Balrog. I noticed one sneaking up behind him and I yelled, "Typhoon Slash!", tracing arcane symbols on my sword and slashing it in an arc. A wave of water appeared out of nowhere and hit the Crimson Balrog. It turned around and began charging a bolt of black lightning. I rolled out of the way just in time, the bolt missing my arm by a hair's width. I began to focus my energy and I shouted, "Rage!". I could feel my attack power increase as I pointed my sword forwards and charged towards the nearest Crimson Balrog. I closed my eyes, ready for a spurt of blood, but it never came. I opened my eyes to find myself dangling in mid-air, held by a Crimson Balrog. It snarled and started to use me as a mace to attack the Crusader. It ducked the swipes as I started to get dizzy from all the whirling. I stabbed my sword into the beast's wrist and it roared in pain, releasing me. I landed on the deck roughly, nearly sliding off the edge. Getting up, I got ready to transform. The Siren said, "No! The deck is too slippery! If you transform and start fighting, you'll slide off the edge!" I replied, "Transforming is my only hope now. I can't use the Exzas Beast as the ship will surely break apart with my weight. Siren, embodiment of ice and water, awaken!". My armour disappeared as my legs melded together, forming a long green scaly tail. My brown hair grew longer and became silver coloured. My hands became green and scaly as I sheathed my sword and placed it on my back. "Ice, power of the North Pole, become my weapon! Ice Sword!" I said. Flecks of water appeared from the air around me and gathered in my hands and froze, forming an icy sword. I began to slither towards the nearest Balrog but the deck was too slippery. I lost my grip and slid towards the edge of the deck. Suddenly, a hand reached out of nowhere and grabbed my tail. The Crusader was tying my tail to the mast as he looked back at me and smiled. I pulled myself back up and started to twirl my sword around after tracing some symbols on it. "Hailstorm!" I shouted as icy projectiles emerged from my spinning sword and flew towards the Balrog. It blocked the attack with its wings and tried to fly up. I smiled as the Balrog realized it couldn't take off as its wing was frozen. It snarled at me and fired a lightning bolt at my body. I easily dodged it and shouted, "Ice Sword, Spear Form!". My sword became a spear and I began to stab the Balrog. It grabbed the spear and flung it away. I retreated and summoned another weapon, this time a bow. I drew the bowstring as icy arrows materialized in my hands. I thought of the shot Ivan had fired when he was fighting the intruder and tried to perform it. The arrow I had nocked to my string started to change shape as I yelled, "Hyperion Blast!" It flew out, trailing a golden stream of light. It pierced through the Balrog's arm and exploded, blowing the arm off into the sky. Not exactly the effect I wanted, but it served its purpose. The Balrog began to charge towards me as I hurriedly nocked another arrow to the string. However, I fumbled with it and dropped the arrow. I nocked another arrow just as the Balrog got in my face. "Eep." I said as the Balrog slashed me with the claws on its one remaining hand. My body flew backwards and I hit the railing, bleeding severely. As the Balrog closed in, I tried to nock another arrow to the string only to find the bow in pieces. It got in my face again and prepared to deal the finishing blow. Suddenly, the Balrog stopped mid-swipe. A sword protruded through its chest and I quickly got out of the way. It fell to the ground as the Crusader pulled his sword back out and cleaned it of the blood on it with a wet cloth. It was shining brightly again as he sheathed it. Yet another Balrog leapt off the ship, this time carrying something strange. He pulled something out and threw it at us. I glanced at it and gasped. It was a grenade. I picked it up and threw it off the ship just before it exploded. I heaved a sigh of relief and looked at the Balrog only to find more grenades flying in my direction. The Crusader started to bat the grenades off the ship with his sword as I summoned an icy spear and started stabbing it. It howled in pain and flew back to its ship. It flew away. What a cowardly Balrog that was. As I watched the black ship flee, the idiotic wizard that had locked us out earlier came out and apologized to us, only to look at me and go red. Suddenly, the knot tying my tail to the ship loosened and I slipped off the ship, losing consiousness. I felt someone grab at my tail only to lose his grip on it. I fell to the ground below rapidly, blood seeping out of my wounds and I fainted. I woke up freezing in a mound of snow. I quickly got up and looked around. The scenery was white with snow and dotted with trees and it was snowing really hard. I was lucky the snow had broken my fall. I tried to move but my tail was frozen solid. I hadn't transformed back to normal when I fell. Suddenly, pain shot through my body and I fell to the ground, clutching my wounds. I was going to die here, if not from starvation, from either excessive bleeding or the weather I was in, the middle of a snowstorm. My body started to feel numb from the cold and my teeth chattered. I started to shiver and lose consciousness again. I eventually fainted. |
